Police Plan Halloween Checkpoints

Harrisonburg Police will have several undisclosed driving checkpoints around the city for Halloween on Saturday. “It’s a night where people need to be more aware with kids out trick-or-treating and adults out in costumes,” said Mary-Hope Gangwer, HPD public information officer. Sprinkler Damages Gifford Dorm Rooms

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Fire trucks showed up to Gifford Hall on Tuesday evening not for a drill or a fire but for a sprinkler accidentally set off. Around 7 p.m., freshman Zac Talley said he was doing laundry in the basement when the fire alarm went off. He said he didn’t see anything to worry about at first, but a resident adviser told him to leave immediately, even though he was barefoot and shirtless. HARRISONBURG, Va. — Cutting down on traffic and environmental friendliness are among the reasons some students bike around campus. But since the beginning of the semester, 14 cases of larceny or bicycle theft have been reported to the JMU Public Saftey.
