HARRISONBURG, Va. — Mary Shindler went a little farther than most students with her goal to help the earth — she went all the way to Copenhagen over winter break to take part in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Shindler, a Charlottesville resident and philosophy major, went to the U.N. Convention as part of the 19-member Sierra Student Coalition. Students Lose Parking to Construction

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Finding a parking space just got a little harder for student commuters. Beginning today, Level 2 of the Champions Drive Parking Deck will be available only to faculty and staff. Level 2, consisting of 112 parking spaces, was formerly dedicated to student commuter parking. The change comes as a result of the expansion of the staging area of Bridgeforth Stadium construction into G Lot, which held 103 faculty and staff parking spaces. Intruder Peeks in Hillside Showers

A trespasser entered Hillside Hall on Saturday morning just before 11 a.m. and opened two shower curtains while two female residents were showering, according to JMU Police. Police sent a “Timely Notice” e-mail at 11 a.m. Sunday to alert the campus to the reported crime. Hillside resident Ariel Spagnolo said her friend Katie Stolp had been in the shower when the man walked into the hall-style restroom. Flu Spreads On Campus

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Senior Emily Dean started feeling achy on Friday. On Sunday she had a fever, and by Monday she was diagnosed with swine flu. “I was really sick for eight solid days,” Dean said. “I couldn’t get out of bed all day. Life in Prison for Killer of JMU Student and Mother

HARRISONBURG, Va. — As JMU senior Sarah Smith sat in a courtroom Monday afternoon, surrounded by family and friends, she awaited the court to hand down the verdict for her brother’s killer. Xavier Pinckney, 17, was convicted of capital murder Monday in the fatal December shootings of JMU student James “Jim” Smith and his mother, Jean Smith, in their Dale City home. Bell Hall Offers Alternate Living

In a world where college is often synonymous with drinking, students living in Bell Hall have turned their backs on drunken partying. Instead, students living in the Hillside area dorm have signed a substance-free contract agreeing not to use or possess drugs or alcohol. Those who violate the agreement potentially face a $75 fine. A host of Virginia’s Democrats were in the Festival Ballroom on Sunday, rallying their support for the Nov. 3 election for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general. HARRISONBURG, Va. — What started as a regular weekend party ended with the revocation of a fraternity’s 15-year-old charter. Twelve years later, Lambda Chi Alpha finally got its charter back on Friday night with a formal banquet at Clementine Café.
