Cross Country to Host CAA Championships

The first Colonial Athletic Association championship of the school year will be hosted by the JMU women’s cross country team Saturday. Starting at 11 a.m. at New Market Battlefield State Historical Park, Madison will try to improve on last year’s second place finish. “I do think we have an advantage being on our home course,” senior Alison Parris said.  “We know the course well and it is just more comfortable sleeping here instead of a hotel. Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Panthers

HARRISONBURG, Va. — The JMU women’s soccer team beat Georgia State 1-0 Sunday afternoon. Madison ended its three-game conference home stand on a victory after splitting the first two games. It took five saves from Panther goalkeeper Heidi Blankenship to keep the first half scoreless. JMU (6-4 overall) outshot Georgia State 13 to four, but couldn’t convert any shots to goals. Field Hockey Performs Well With Difficult Schedule Playing Ranked Teams The JMU field hockey team has a less than stellar 5-4 record, but a closer look explains why this team is still ranked 15th in the country. Old Dominion (5-5) is the only other Colonial Athletic Association team ranked higher with four or more losses. When given a closer look, however, five wins and four losses appear more impressive. The JMU field hockey team will face Wake Forest in its home opener Sunday.
