Three 6 Mafia and Girl Talk co-headline spring show Neon lights, deafening sound and weed as a topic of conversation. That was the scene at Friday night’s spring concert when Three 6 Mafia and Girl Talk took the stage. Three 6 Mafia, the popular rap group among the college-aged, opened the show with a lot of talk and not as much music. Girl Talk turned the Convocation Center into a nightclub in a matter of seconds. Girl Talk, who is also known as DJ Gregg Gillis, started mixing beats and before he knew it, more than 2,900 people were jumping up and down in unison screaming and pumping arms. “It was absolutely amazing,” junior Paige Mixon said, “so sweaty and gross, but awesome.” Girl Talk closed the Spring concert series at JMU Friday night while Three 6 Mafia opened the show. Only One Office Contested, Debate Poorly Attended

HARRISONBURG. Va. — Guest punches? Quadfest? Transparency? These were some issues of the The Breeze and SGA co-hosted debate Tuesday on the Festival Patio. Despite the expressed passion of the candidates, it wasn’t mirrored by student interest as an audience of about 20 people, mainly connected to SGA and The Breeze, attended. LGBT students to don special pendents at separate ceremony, May commencement HARRISONBURG, Va. — This May some students will be graduating with colors other than purple and gold. Some will wear lavender. The Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay or Transgender JMU group and its Ally education program, which is a part of the Student Wellness and Outreach Program, is hosting its sixth annual Lavender Graduation. New Group to Educate Students On Mental Health

HARRISONBURG, Va.— Alison Malmon was a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania when her older brother Brian committed suicide in 2001. Brian had been experiencing depression for three years, but had concealed his symptoms from everyone. After his death, Malmon decided to create a group that would teach students what to look for in their friends and family when it came to depression and mental health. State Mulls Texting-and-Driving Ban

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Ever drive by a car and notice the person in the driver’s seat is staring down at a cell phone texting? This scene may soon be a thing of the past, at least if Virginia has anything to say about it. The Virginia Senate voted 33-6 last week to pass Del. John Cosgrove’s bill to ban sending or reading text messages or e-mail while driving. The House passed the legislation 88-10 earlier this month. Stone Gate intruder defecates on carpet HARRISONBURG, Va. — Junior Shannon Sparks woke up Wednesday morning to a stinky surprise. Student’s Death Gives Organs to Others

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Victoria Faye Alcantara was less than a week away from celebrating her 21st birthday, but instead of attending a party, she lay in the hospital about to give five strangers her organs. Friday night the junior nursing major was on her way to a nursing conference in Virginia Beach when she lost control of her car on Interstate 81 and slammed the driver’s side into a tree. Four males in an Ashby Crossing apartment heard a knock on the door Thursday evening. The person outside began pitching a sale to them about buying a book on President Barack Obama. The residents said “no,” but the person continued, even walking inside their apartment. At that point, the sales pitch stopped and the man allegedly pulled a gun on the residents. Faculty Member Killed in Hit-and-Run

HARRISONBURG, VA- JMU faculty member Sherry Burcham Anderson was jogging at 5:30 the morning of Jan. 6 when she was struck by a car and killed. The accident took place on the 1100 block of South Main Street near the Catholic Campus Ministry. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Later that evening, Harrisonburg Police located the car that hit Anderson and was able to arrest the driver.
