HARRISONBURG, Va. — The two students charged with felonies for allegedly throwing snow-style “missiles” at vehicles will appear in court April 7. Ryan William Knight, 21, made his first court appearance Monday morning in Rockingham County General District Court. LaTray Nabbed While Napping, Police Say HARRISONBURG, Va. — The man accused of robbing Harrisonburg’s SunTrust Bank in December is now in jail. Gary LaTray, 51, of Syracuse, N.Y., was captured in West Virginia on Wednesday. LaTray is wanted in Harrisonburg for robbery, leaving a hoax bomb, making a bomb threat and entering a bank armed with the intent to commit larcerny. Teen Gets Life in Prison

Killed Student in Dec. ’08 HARRISONBURG, Va. — The teenager convicted of killing JMU student James “Jim” Smith and his mother Jean Smith in December 2008 will spend life in prison. Xavier Pinckney, 18, was sentenced Friday to life without the possibility of parole for the Dale City murders. After 36 Years, Provost to Retire in June

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Doug Brown, a senior vice president and provost, will retire at the end of June after 36 years of employment at JMU. In 1974, Brown joined the JMU faculty as a professor of psychology. From 1992 to 1994, Brown was the head of the psychology department before being appointed to associate vice president for academic affairs in 1994. JMU in Talks to Purchase Rockingham Co-op Land

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Rockingham Cooperative on West Grace Street is hoping to sell the property to JMU by the end of the year, which would put the university another step closer to fulfilling its Master Plan. JMU and the cooperative have been in negotiations over the 8-acre property in the past year, but they are still working out final terms and conditions. Student Paper’s Online Policy Under Fire

Funds Will Not Be Taken An issue with online comments had threatened funding for Virginia Tech’s student newspaper, but a school official said Friday that would not happen. The controversy began after a Tech advisory group objected to the Collegiate Time’s anonymous comment policy for its Web site. Local Plasma Found Smuggled in Poland

HARRISONBURG, Va.— Eleven tons of smuggled blood plasma discovered in Poland came from the United States, including from Harrisonburg’s BioLife Plasma Service. The stolen plasma came from several different facilities within the United States. Originally destined for Austria, officials said the truck transporting the plasma was stolen when the driver made a rest stop in Germany.
