Rave Draws Hundreds to East Campus Library

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Hundreds of JMU students tried to cure their studying ills by throwing a rave Sunday night in the lobby of the East Campus Library. The flash mob appeared about 9:35 p.m., with students arriving in the library in droves. It was quiet at first, but that changed after not even 10 minutes. SunTrust Bank Robber Still on the Loose

Threatened Teller with Claim of Explosive Package HARRISONBURG, Va. — After police surrounded the SunTrust Bank on South Main Street for hours Tuesday evening, the suspect in the bank robbery and bomb threat remains on the loose. The suspect entered the bank at 1300 S. Main St., demanded money and left a package that he said contained an explosive device. Students Lose Parking to Construction

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Finding a parking space just got a little harder for student commuters. Beginning today, Level 2 of the Champions Drive Parking Deck will be available only to faculty and staff. Level 2, consisting of 112 parking spaces, was formerly dedicated to student commuter parking. The change comes as a result of the expansion of the staging area of Bridgeforth Stadium construction into G Lot, which held 103 faculty and staff parking spaces. Stadium Expansion Scheduled for Fall 2011 Completion

The west side of Bridgeforth Stadium is almost gone after two weeks of demolition. On Monday afternoon, an 86-foot-long excavator nicknamed “T-Rex,” along with a wrecking ball and other machines, tore down the concrete grandstands for the stadium expansion that will ultimately be complete before the 2011 football season. Alcohol Violations, Violent Crime Up

Increased Numbers on Holidays, First Weeks HARRISONBURG, Va. — Police arrested significantly more JMU students for alcohol violations this semester compared to last year, and violent crime referrals have doubled. Judicial Affairs has received 714 referrals for alcohol violations just this semester, compared to 543 last fall. HARRISONBURG, Va. — JMU is continuing to drive regional innovation, economic performance and global competitiveness as it joins a research consortium. The university has joined eight other institutions from Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., to become part of the Chesapeake Crescent Innovation Alliance. City to Replace Grates on Roads

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Changes are coming to roads in Harrisonburg that could make it safer for cyclists. The city identified storm grates as potential road hazards because bicycle wheels can get stuck in grates that are wide enough. The city has since identified 61 storm grates that would not harm drainage. H1N1 Vaccine Clinic to be Held Friday

HARRISONBURG, Va. — There will be an H1N1 flu vaccine clinic from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday in the Memorial Hall gymnasium. The vaccine is available to students, faculty, staff and people in the community over the age of 12 years old. The cost for each vaccine is $19.96. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.
